Founded in year 2007, Ambient Intelligence Lab is one of 8 cutting-edge research labs in IDM Institute,National University of Singapore. AMI Lab is dedicated to develop innovative sentient systems and environments for user-inspired Interactive Digital Media applications.

About Ambient Intelligence

In computing, ambient intelligence (AMI) refers to electronic environments that are sensitive and responsive to the presence of people. Ambient intelligence is a vision on the future of consumer electronics, telecommunications and computing that was originally developed in the late 1990s for the time frame 2010-2020.

In an ambient intelligence world, devices work in concert to support people in carrying out their everyday life activities, tasks and rituals in easy, natural way using information and intelligence that is hidden in the network connecting these devices. As these devices grow smaller, more connected and more integrated into our environment, the technology disappears into our surroundings until only the user interface remains perceivable by users.

Research Scope

We are currently working on a NUS campus-wide project – NUS Living Lab – which is a strategic initiative that will transform the University into a major testbed that aims to provide a platform for pilots and trials at a scale that has not been possible in the past.

While the testbed infrastructure will facilitate such pilots and trials, it also presents ways to look at new and unique perspectives of outcomes that will be of impact and value to NUS.

More information can be found in this NUS Living Lab website.
